Najmul Hossain Shanto ruled out of Asia Cup 2023

In a significant setback for the Bangladesh cricket team, their star batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2023 Asia Cup due to a hamstring injury.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially confirmed that Shanto will be heading back home to commence his rehabilitation. This decision has been made with an eye on the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, where Bangladesh aims to perform strongly.

Shanto’s absence during the Asia Cup Super 4 stage will undoubtedly be felt by the team. However, to fill the void left by Shanto, Litton Das has been called in as his replacement.

Litton Das, who was initially excluded from the original squad due to health concerns, now joins the Bangladesh squad in Lahore for the remainder of the tournament. Litton is a seasoned campaigner for Bangladesh, with 72 ODIs under his belt, amassing an impressive 2213 runs at an average of 34, including five centuries.

Shanto sustained his injury during Bangladesh’s match against Afghanistan, where he displayed his batting prowess by scoring a brilliant century. Unfortunately, he was unable to take the field later in the game. Bangladesh’s team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, has provided insights into Shanto’s condition, revealing that the batsman suffered a muscle tear.
