India secured a comfortable 10-wicket victory over Nepal in a rain-affected match held in Pallekele, Sri Lanka, earning them a spot in the Asia Cup Super Four stage.
Nepal posted a total of 230 runs in 48.2 overs before rain temporarily interrupted India’s chase in this Group A encounter.
Following the rain delay, India was given a revised target of 145 runs to chase within 23 overs, as per the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. They achieved this target with ease, with 17 balls to spare. Captain Rohit Sharma played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 74 runs from 59 balls, while Shubman Gill contributed with an impressive unbeaten 67 runs from 62 balls.
With this win, India joins Pakistan and Bangladesh in advancing to the Super Four stage of the 50-over tournament. In the Super Four stage, each team will face one another, and the top two teams will compete in the final scheduled for September 17.
Sri Lanka also has a chance to qualify for the Super Four stage if they can avoid a substantial defeat against Afghanistan in Lahore, Pakistan, on Tuesday. Furthermore, India is scheduled to take on Pakistan in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on September 10, following a match that ended without a result due to rain in their Group A encounter on Saturday.
