WhatsApp has introduced a native macOS application, now available in beta version for download directly from the official website. Previously, MacBook users could access a web-wrapped version of the app. However, this new macOS app offers enhanced functionality, allowing users to efficiently utilize all the features.
The upgraded app permits users to engage in video calls with a maximum of 8 participants and audio calls with up to 32 participants. With the capability to drag and drop files into chats, users can seamlessly share files. Additionally, the app offers extended chat history viewing, the option to receive incoming call notifications even when the app is closed, and the ability to join ongoing group calls.
In an official blog post, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, stated, “The app has been redesigned to offer Mac users a familiar experience, facilitating efficient usage of WhatsApp on larger screens.” The application was initially tested with a limited number of users on the TestFlight platform.
