Beijing: China has stated that Israel’s escalating actions in Gaza, which it claims are under the banner of “self-defense,” are now beyond the scope of self-defense and are inflicting social punishment on Gaza’s citizens.
According to international news agencies, China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has said that Israel’s actions in Gaza, in response to Hamas attacks, have gone beyond the mandate of “self-defense,” and the United Nations should take it seriously.
China’s Foreign Minister has demanded that Israel halt the imposition of social penalties on the people of Gaza in response to Hamas’s attacks. He called for immediate negotiations to prevent the situation from further deteriorating.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed these views during a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan. This contact took place at a time when Israel had issued a threat of ground operations in Gaza.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had also held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken the previous day, in which he called on the United States to play a role in ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
It is worth noting that China, in its official statements so far, has not explicitly mentioned Hamas by name nor assigned blame for the violence to them. This stance has also faced criticism and scrutiny from other international powers.
As the situation in the Gaza-Israel conflict continues to escalate, China’s diplomatic interventions signal a growing global concern for the crisis and a push for a peaceful resolution.
