The Sri Lankan captain, Dasun Shanaka, won the toss and chose to bat first in this World Cup clash held on a Tuesday.
Each team made one change to their lineup, with Abdullah Shafique replacing Fakhar Zaman in the Pakistani team, and Kasun Rajith making way for Maheesh Theekshana in the Sri Lankan team.

In their first game of the tournament at the same venue, Pakistan had defeated the Netherlands by a convincing margin of 81 runs. As a result, they currently occupy the third position in the points table.
